...providing food, medical care, and love to orphans in the name of Jesus Christ.
Name: Mutonyi Alice
Age: 9 years
Lives with: Grandmother
Grade: Primary Three
Wish to be in future: Doctor
Alice lives in Nalugugu, a neighboring village to Dorcas with her paternal grandmother and other 3 cousins. Her father and mother died with an interval of one year after succumbing to HIV which left her in the care of the uncle and later the grandmother to date.
Alice acquired HIV at birth because the delivery was done at home as an emergency and there was no safety precaution nor antenatal attended by the mother to know her health condition to ensure safe delivery of her unborn child then.
She takes her ARVs under the supervision of the grandmother and older cousins though sometimes she is sickly due to low immunity. There is limited finances to take care of health emergencies, education needs and nutrition. She is quite social with other children and very interested in school.
Sponsorship of a child who is HIV positive is $50 monthly (rather than the $30 for other programs) because of the extra nutrition and medical monitoring needed for the child.

Shared Blessings is a grass roots, all volunteer, non-profit organization. It began officially in January, 1998 as an outreach program of Family Connections Adoptions. It started as a sponsorship program for orphans at Dorcas Orphanage Home in Mbale, Uganda.
Shared Blessings is a faith based ministry that exists to extend the love of Jesus Christ to children in poverty stricken circumstances. The work will be carried out through sponsorship programs for needy children, through projects to promote community health and education, and through mission trips to the places where the children live.
